NYC’s Largest Oyster Festival is Back, Get Ready for the 21st Annual Stone Street Oysterfest
Financial District, NYC — It’s peak oyster season, so you won’t want to miss out on New York City’s largest oyster event of the year: the 21st annual Stone & Pearl Oysterfest happening October 20th-22nd.
For over two decades Stone Street’s Oysterfest has continued to attract thousands of oyster and stout enthusiasts year after year. Oyster aficionados and stout beer connoisseurs alike can look forward to three days filled with delicious East Coast oysters perfectly complemented by Wolfhound’s Nitro Oyster Stout — which incorporates oysters in the brewing process — as well as a more limited supply of Wolfhound Red Ale.
The festival, which is free to attend, consists of both an outdoor portion and an indoor portion. The outdoor portion is a large street festival happening on Saturday (10/21) from noon to 11 PM, where you can expect to see Stone Street lined with tents of outdoor bars selling oysters, beer on draft, and other food and drinks.
The indoor portion is an oyster happy hour taking place at ten participating restaurants and bars, all located within a two block area on Stone Street and Pearl Street, kicking off on Friday at 4 PM, and continuing through Sunday evening (or until the bars run out of oysters!).
The participating restaurants and bars are Stone Street Tavern (52 Stone St), Mad Dog & Beans (50 Stone St), Grievous Angel (53 Stone St), The Cauldron (47 Stone St), Beckett’s (48 Stone St), Route 66 (46 Stone St), Havana Social (45 Stone St), Fraunces Tavern (54 Pearl St), Broadstone (88 Broad St) and London & Martin Co (6 Stone St).
Stone Street & Pearl Street creates the perfect backdrop for this annual fall tradition — but not only because of it’s charming cobblestones and old historic buildings — the area also has a deep history when it comes to oysters. Pearl Street used to be the original waterfront of Lower Manhattan and actually got it’s name from the pearlescent shimmer of all the shells scattered on the shoreline where the indigenous Lenape had been harvesting oysters. And later on, people from the early colonial days used oyster shells to pave the road.
So whether you're a seasoned oyster lover, a first-time oyster sampler, a history nerd, a craft beer fan, or just someone who likes big block parties, the Pearl & Stone Oysterfest has something for everyone and promises a shucking good time next weekend!
